Ingredients

For the Latte (Serves 1)

  • 1 shot (1 oz) espresso (or 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 cup milk (whole, 2%, or non-dairy like almond or coconut milk)
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup (or 1 tablespoon cocoa powder mixed with 1 tablespoon sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened coconut flakes (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sliced almonds (for garnish)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or drizzle (optional, for topping)

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Small saucepan or milk frother
  • Mug (12-16 oz capacity)
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Instructions

  1. Brew the Espresso: Prepare 1 shot (1 oz) of espresso using an espresso machine or brew 1/4 cup of strong coffee using a coffee maker or French press. Set aside.
  2. Heat and Flavor the Milk: In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm 1 cup of milk until steaming but not boiling (about 150°F/65°C). Alternatively, use a milk frother. Add 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup (or cocoa-sugar mixture), 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract, and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract to the milk. Stir until fully combined.
  3. Froth the Milk (Optional): If you have a milk frother, froth the flavored milk until it’s foamy. If not, whisk vigorously in the saucepan to create some foam.
  4. Assemble the Latte: Pour the brewed espresso into a 12-16 oz mug. Slowly pour the flavored milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon if desired, then spoon the foam on top.
  5. Garnish: Top with a dollop of whipped cream (if using). Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sweetened coconut flakes and 1 teaspoon sliced almonds over the top. Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup or chocolate shavings for extra flair.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately while hot. Stir gently before drinking to blend the flavors.

Tips

  • Non-Dairy Option: Use coconut milk or almond milk for a stronger coconut or almond flavor and to keep it dairy-free.
  • Sweetness Adjustment: Adjust the chocolate syrup or sugar to taste for a sweeter or less sweet latte.
  • Cold Version: For an iced Almond Joy Mocha Latte, brew the espresso and let it cool. Use cold milk, skip heating, and pour over ice. Top with whipped cream, coconut flakes, and almonds.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh. Do not store pre-mixed lattes, but you can prepare extra espresso and flavored milk separately and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
