Ingredients

  • Hibiscus Tea Concentrate:
    • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers (or 4 hibiscus tea bags)
    • 2 cups water
    • 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Espresso:
    • 1 shot (1 oz) freshly brewed espresso, cooled
  • Sparkling Water:
    • 1/2 cup sparkling water (chilled)
  • Additional:
    • Ice cubes
    • 1 slice of orange or lemon (for garnish)
    • Optional: Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Espresso machine or stovetop moka pot
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)
  • Tall glass or cocktail glass

Instructions

  1. Prepare Hibiscus Tea Concentrate:
    • In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
    • Add the dried hibiscus flowers or tea bags and reduce heat to a simmer.
    • Let simmer for 5-7 minutes until the water turns a deep red color.
    • Remove from heat and stir in honey or simple syrup until dissolved.
    • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a container, discarding the solids. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
  2. Brew Espresso:
    • Prepare 1 shot (1 oz) of espresso using an espresso machine or moka pot.
    • Allow the espresso to cool to room temperature or chill it in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
  3. Assemble the Spritz:
    • Fill a tall glass or cocktail glass with ice cubes.
    • Pour 2 oz of the chilled hibiscus tea concentrate over the ice.
    • Add the cooled espresso shot and gently stir to combine.
    • Top off the glass with 1/2 cup of chilled sparkling water for a fizzy finish.
  4. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish with a slice of orange or lemon for a citrusy touch.
    • Optionally, add a sprig of fresh mint for an aromatic flourish.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing blend of flavors.

Tips

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey/simple syrup to the hibiscus tea concentrate.
  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use a double shot of espresso.
  • Store extra hibiscus tea concentrate in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • For a cocktail version, add a splash of gin or vodka before topping with sparkling water.
