  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or crema
  • Hot sauce (optional, to taste)

Equipment

  • Grater
  • Non-stick skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Hash Browns

  1. Place grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out excess moisture.
  2. In a bowl, mix grated potatoes with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  4. Form potato mixture into 4 thin, rectangular patties (sized to fit the hot dog buns).
  5. Fry patties for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and keep warm.

Step 2: Cook the Hot Dogs

  1. Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook hot dogs for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through and slightly charred.
  3. Toast hot dog buns in the same skillet or on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden.

Step 3: Fry the Eggs

  1. In a non-stick skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat.
  2. Crack eggs into the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until whites are set but yolks remain runny (or cook to your preferred doneness).
  3. Season eggs lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 4: Assemble the Hash Brown Sunrise Dogs

  1. Place a hash brown patty in each toasted bun.
  2. Add a hot dog on top of the hash brown.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hot dog.
  4. Carefully place a sunny-side-up egg on top of the cheese.
  5. Add avocado slices, diced tomatoes, red onion, and a sprinkle of cilantro.
  6. Drizzle with sour cream or crema and a dash of hot sauce, if desired.

Step 5: Serve

  • Serve immediately while hot, with extra napkins for the deliciously messy experience!

Serving Suggestions

  • Pair with a side of fresh fruit or a light salad for balance.
  • Serve with a cold beverage like iced tea or a refreshing lemonade.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute hot dogs with plant-based sausages.
  • Adjust toppings to your preference—try adding pickles, jalapeños, or a different cheese like pepper jack.
  • Ensure hash browns are thin for maximum crispiness to complement the soft bun and egg.
