- 1/2 cup brown sugar

- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
For Garnish (Optional):
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Equipment Needed
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet with a wire rack
- Medium saucepan
- Whisk
- Tongs
- Measuring cups and spoons
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Wings
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the chicken wings with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until evenly coated.
- Place a wire rack on a baking sheet and arrange the wings in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are crispy and golden brown.
Step 2: Make the Sweet Tea Glaze
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweet tea, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and ginger.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and let it reduce for about 10-12 minutes until slightly thickened.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk the slurry into the glaze and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the glaze thickens. Remove from heat.
Step 3: Glaze the Wings
- Once the wings are done baking, transfer them to a large clean bowl.
- Pour the sweet tea glaze over the wings and toss to coat evenly.
Step 4: Serve
- Arrange the glazed wings on a serving platter.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley and sesame seeds for garnish, if desired.
- Serve immediately with extra glaze on the side for dipping.
Tips
- For extra crispy wings, pat them dry with paper towels before seasoning.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the glaze.
- The glaze can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before using.
Serving Suggestions
- Pair with coleslaw, cornbread, or potato salad for a complete Southern meal.
